Professionals who made the leap

Deb helped me prep for an interview for a remote teaching position and I got the job and was able to transition away from clinical! I had two sessions with her and it helped me immensely with my resume and my interview skills. Can't recommend her enough! A huge thank you to Deb for being such an inspiration throughout this journey.

Deb took the time to engage in a constructive dialogue with me about resume development. She provided invaluable resources and guidance, enabling me to craft a resume that would capture the attention of prospective employers. With Deb's assistance, I explored job opportunities, conducting thorough online research on positions that piqued my interest. We discovered a job listing for a full-time teaching position, and I promptly applied. The interview process was rigorous, and I was thrilled to receive and accept a job offer. I am confident that without the expertise and support of Deb and the team at Beyond Clinical Practice, I would not have been adequately prepared for this opportunity. I highly recommend their services to anyone seeking to transition out of the operatory and needing professional assistance.

So much has happened and I also wanted to thank you for your help, expertise in non clinical interviews. I landed a position finally a few weeks ago as director of Hygiene for DSO across NJ/PA. Can't say enough how thankful your help and resume editing has been for me. I've had multiple interviews and made it to the 5th round for two companies. Thank you so muchhhhh. I'm super excited to say I am stepping out of clinical now. We will keep in touch!

Many thanks to Deb and her friends at Beyond Dental Hygiene for helping me prepare for my non-clinical interview! Deb chatted with me prior to my interview and reviewed lots of practice questions with me. Get this: every single question she said would be on the interview. . .was asked of me! I was shocked. But she prepared me so well and I felt confident answering every question because of her expertise. Non clinical interviews are so different than clinical, so do yourself a favor and go in prepared! Thanks Deb!

Backstory: Unable to work as a hygienist for several years, I was working in dental admin as a last resort and miserable. I had applied to dozens and dozens of non-dental positions, searching for a way out of the dental office for at least 3 years. 2 weeks ago I applied for this job thinking there was no way I'd get it. When they contacted me for an interview I immediately reached out to Deb. Deb was able to look at my resume and look at the job descriptions to help me see where I could highlight my strengths. She formulated interview questions and coached me through a mock interview. When I met with her I felt unemployable, lost, trapped and most of all had lost all confidence in myself. She helped me realize I am not alone in my struggle to find something different, that it's not me and I have something to offer. I still don't know what luck I was blessed with to land the position, but I truly feel prepping with Deb was the key. Feeling so grateful and humbled. I'm so glad that Deb et. al. have made this group and they've seen the gap for DH wishing to get out of the "trap". If you're feeling lost like me I highly recommend reaching out to them to book a session and see where it takes you!

Thank you so much! I honestly would not have been in this position if it wasn't for your help. It has been 3 months of apply to a multitude of jobs with just as many rejections or no reply but I wasn't giving up! I am very proud of myself. I spent too long just thinking about leaving clinical hygiene believing I had nothing but clinical skills in my pocket. But talking to you and tearing apart my resume was the boost I needed. I was so nervous to even take that step but knew it's what I had to do. To say I'm not only proud of myself for today's interview but I'm proud of myself for reaching out for assistance!

I've spent 25 years meticulously scaling teeth and educating patients, sitting in positions with substandard ergonomics and the daily mental exhaustion of burnout! Today, however, I share that in two weeks - there will be no more probing depths, no more donning my mask, gloves, and loupes! My hands and fingers, my education and my passion for patient centric care will be used to assist offices in creating periodontal programs. This won't be just another dental hygiene job; it is an exciting, yet anxious new landscape within the dental world - a non-clinical role! Deb and Jess put their hearts and souls into helping!

Deb helped me get my job! I did two sessions of interview prep with her and now I work part time remote teaching for a dental office admin program at a private college. I'm literally the happiest I have ever been. Other than my class times I can set my own hours, work when I want to and I go into the college 1 day a week as an admin day to meet with my boss so I get a little bit of the office culture and then exposure so I don't feel alone or left to my own devices. Seriously, meet with Deb. She will help you!

For the longest time, at least a year, I'd been dreaming of the day to be out of clinical dental hygiene. It wasn't because I didn't have passion any longer because that still exists, but the hygiene shortage and working along side hygienist that are comfortable being comfortably content and inefficient was becoming a daily battle of fighting burnout. Although I had dreamt of finding something different, I made no actionable change plan or goals. However, all that changed when just scrolling through a job board site I found what seemed like would be my 'new' dream job. It was with a major dental insurance carrier that required a dental hygiene degree and would provide training that was fully remote - sounds like the dream job, right? So what does one do when they inadvertently find that dream job? Of course they craft and send a resume and cover letter - but both only highlight 20+ years of chairside clinician! To say it was pathetic is an understatement. After I was rejected from that dream job I realized if I wanted to do something beside clinical dental hygiene I'm going to need help. My first actionable step was to reach out to Deb for help with my resume and cover letter skills if a cover letter is required. Deb worked with me, not for me, in creating a resume I am proud and confident in sending. While taking that first step was nerve wracking, crafting a resume from clinical to transferable skill set was even more so! When I sent my drafts she either striked to remove or highlighted to keep. Our last meeting was a collaboration of fine tuning and bouncing descriptors with each other - and resulted in a more polished, professional resume! I immediately started working on sending that beauty out with more confidence only to be knocked down a time or two or three or multiple rejections! I reached out to Deb asking if this was normal because rejection was hitting hard. I learned it was and that many times it takes 3-6 months minimum to get beyond the initial influx of resumes. I however was not going to be deterred by rejections or hearing nothing. Last weekend, Sunday to be exact, I spent an entire day refining my resume to tailor it to the jobs I was applying for, in addition to writing 2 required cover letters! I had 7 saved jobs and sent out 5 resumes, with the remaining 2 I did Monday evening. Monday afternoon I received an email from one of the companies asking to set up an interview! To say I was excited is an understatement. During the rebuilding resume session with Deb (btw worth every cent of the cost) we had some interviewing strategy so I felt a bit prepared, but the key takeaway was to know that job description and interview with their own words! I had my interview today and despite being nervous, I was very proud of myself for being poised and confident - my resume already told them about my previous goals and metrics, today I had to express my present and future goals and metrics with the company! When it was all said and done, a second interview was set up with the hiring manager and I couldn't have been more proud of myself! I understand this was long and I appreciate you hanging in this long because with all those words I wanted to say - don't only dream but take steps to make that dream a reality. If I don't get beyond the second interview, the knowledge I've gained in comfort being uncomfortable and don't stop after a multitude of rejections helps in finding success. Do it nervous! Do it being uncomfortable! Do it making mistakes! But don't expect it to happen without action. Thanks Deb for your help and encouragement! I'm proud of myself for taking that first uncomfortable step!!
